This annual event was held on Tuesday 16th June at the beautiful village of Nunnington. As has proved popular in past years there were options for either a 4.5 mile or a shorter 2 mile walk and/or a 1 mile Treasure Trail around the village, all followed by a Cream Tea in the listed village hall.

Twenty walkers, ably led by David Fotheringham, gathered at 12.00noon sharp to set off on a circular walk starting from the village hall. Starting by walking gently uphill through the lovely village of Nunnington, from the top of the village the walk continued upwards to the ridge to enjoy the splendid view towards Hovingham. Our less adventurous ‘short walkers’ then retraced their steps to the village hall where a welcome cuppa awaited them! Once revived some of them continued on to join the ‘Treasure Trailers’ who were just setting off to solve the clues as they strolled round the village.

The ‘long walkers’ then followed the line of the ridge to West Ness. From the ridge they enjoyed another fabulous view south across the Howardian Hills and north up to Helmsley and the north York Moors (the views would have been more spectacular if the day had been clearer!). Following the stream from West Ness along the edge of the fields back to Nunnington, they passed the grounds of Nunnington Hall and then returned to the village hall.

Once everyone was safely back at the village hall we all dug in to a delicious Cream Tea of homemade scones and cakes which looked absolutely fabulous ready laid out before us. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all who came and some even added the extra luxury of a glass of fizz with their tea!

Following the usual tense scoring session the winners of the Treasure Trail were declared as our visitors Joe Postill and his three friends who had returned for a second year. They won a tin of biscuits and the booby prize of a Dwarf Bean Plant was won by Dave and Jane Marchant.

Everyone donated generously to the raffle which raised a massive £187.50 itself!

I would like to thank everyone who supported the event, there were 14 people involved in one or more ways. Many hands make light work!

The day raised just over £700 which International Team will make up to £1000 so that we are able to reach our goal of pledging the funds to Smile Kenya to purchase 10 Goats!
