DECEMBER 23 NEWS
(100 for 100 plus 90 years.)1934 – 2024 SHINE A LIGHT
To celebrate the centenary of Inner Wheel we collected 100 x 4 = 400 pairs of socks, many brand new, to be donated to The Carecent Breakfast club for the homeless, unemployed, and those socially excluded members of society in the City of York.
President Linda Lacy said, “the simple gesture of giving a clean dry pair of socks makes those experiencing homelessness and in need feel supported especially this time of year”.
We celebrated at our Christmas lunch being entertained by the fabulous talented pupils from the Primary School Choir of St George's school , led by York's Musical Royalty Steve Cassidy.
We were also lucky again to have a beautiful Christmas cake made by one of our longest serving members Marlise who has given service to the club for over 43 years .
OCTOBER 2023 NEWS. Theme “Shine a light”
The Inner Wheel Club is in it’s 89th year and it still shines through. Thank you to the ladies of York IW Club for filling 30 shoe boxes for international causes / distribution. (Going to Eastern Europe including Ukraine.)
We collected over 100 pairs of knickers, numerous knitted goods from blankets, jumpers, hats and of course the sweet hand knitted teddies.
We are sure each and every item will be appreciated by whoever receives them.
Our ISO works so hard collecting all the items and delivering them to a central collecting point at St Chads in Leeds …. Thank you, Paddy.
Linda Lacy
AUGUST 23 NEWS
On Sunday 20th August, Four Inner Wheel members, helped support Rotary Tree Partnership on the 4th Anniversary of the tree planting project at the Haxby Road site.
Over 22 families and friends came to tend/ find their trees planted 2018/19. Enjoying a picnic in the wooded area on the banks of the River Foss, on a glorious hot sunny afternoon (despite it being the World Cup Women’s football final)
This is another example of Rotary / Inner Wheel working together in the community, to make a difference to the local environment.,
(With thanks to Celia Impey, Helen Porter, Janine Jackson, Linda Lacy)
