Outward Bound Course 2026 (RYLA re-placement!)

The photograph above shows the two students Isaac and Phoebe who were sponsored by the three Rotary Clubs in York to attend a 6 day Outward Bound Course in the Lake District, along with their tutor Lizzie. You will remember that RYLA had to be cancelled this year due to illness and we were able to offer this course as an alternative for these two students.

Leighton Davies from York Vikings delivered the students to the Outward Bound Trust premises on Lake Ullswater on Monday 10^th August and they were picked up and brought back to York on Sunday 16^th August by Sheila Weatherburn and myself.

They had a fabulous time! Whilst the emphasis was not as much on the development of leadership skills as RYLA would have been, they were involved in team work and took part in some very exciting and challenging activities which included cliff jumping, climbing and sleeping under the stars without a tent! They each made new friends and learned social skills which will be of great use to them as adults.

Phoebe and Isaac will be making a presentation about their experiences on the course at Vikings Rotary Club Meeting on Tuesday 8^th September at 7.30pm. Anyone wishing to attend should let Eileen Davis or myself know as soon as possible and we will co-ordinate booking.

It is hoped that RYLA will return in 2027 but if it is not re-established Youth Services from the three York Clubs will consider sponsoring more young people to attend this course as a great alternative.
