The Hut
The Hut is a members-led charity that brings creativity and purpose to the lives of adults with enduring mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities. We are a small local charity, based in premises, known as “The Hut”, in Wigginton Road immediately opposite York Hospital.
The Hut is unique in providing both short and
long-term support, by having an open-door policy where our members can come as often as, and for as long as, they wish.
Our members learn new skills, art, crafts and activities, as well as social and vocational skills in a safe and friendly environment. Run by a very small number of paid staff, and many volunteers, we have grown from supporting 50 members to now having over 200.
We have recently acquired a long lease for our premises, and are now embarking on an expansion and refurbishment programme. The funds raised from the Dragon Boat Challenge will help make this exciting development a reality.

SASH
SASH (Safe and Sound Homes) is an independent charity that provides support to young people facing homelessness in York, North and East Yorkshire.
The charity offers emergency overnight or short-term accommodation known as Nightstop and longer term Supported Lodgings, providing young people with a safe and warm place to stay in a time of need.
The biggest single reason for youth homelessness is family breakdown, but some may be leaving care or fleeing violence and have nowhere to go. Many 16 – 25 year olds that find themselves homeless tend to sofa surf, which can affect their mental and physical wellbeing and puts employment and education at risk.
Youth homelessness is a hidden problem and prevalent within our
community. Your support will enable us to continue to provide a safe and warm place for a young person to stay, rebuild their lives and work towards living independently.
