After a short postponement, some of the Spring Term York College Awards were handed out at the Construction Centre on Wednesday 23rd April. President Mike Hay kindly presented the Awards; he was accompanied Project Leader Brian Houghton and acting photographer Eileen Davis. As on previous occasions, we were welcomed by Ashley Stokes, Head of Curriculum for Construction.

3 of the winners were not in College that day and we had a bit of an unplanned tour trying to locate each of the 3 who were not always in the expected “work” areas! However, we were able to meet them and some of the teaching staff who explained why each student had been nominated. Mike presented each winner with a “Student of the Term” Certificate and our Award, a £50 “One4all” voucher. This has replaced the original Barnitt’s voucher as it enables online purchases.

We took the opportunity to evaluate the project with Ashley; he and deputy Mike Burdett, who was acting as a technician for a group doing a City and Guilds assessment that day, both feel it is very worthwhile and are appreciative of our support. We planned for the Award to be supported over 2 years 2023-5 but an extension into 2025-6 has been agreed to use up our share of the wound-up Technology Tournament fund.
