Jane Albon is helping York College with their fashion design course over the coming academic year. Jane followed being a fashion student by a very successful career in the fashion industry so Jane has a lot of invaluable experience to bring to the course.
Jane has already attended the College and talked to the students about her career, the next stage has been organising mock interviews and there will be more involvement as the academic year progresses.

One of the stages of Jane’s involvement is organising mock interviews for a fictional post that Jane advertised for at the college.
Jane Albon and Mary Lumley headed off to York College for the day on 3rd November to hold “In Person” interviews with the 7 job applicants.
Based on the Youth Teams successful Mock Interview format for University Interviews, a new company and Design position were invented. The job advertisement had been placed in the Fashion Design Department some 3 weeks earlier. Giving brief details of the advertised position and invented company, Paterson & Hope, students were asked to email their CV and Covering letter in preparation for an interview. Seven 45 minute interviews were prepared, consisting of Portfolio Review, a written form to be completed, 6 intriguing Fashion Industry questions. The very nervous students were interviewed at length, but all of them did very well. Feedback forms were prepared and sent back to the college.
The position was given to one student who really came across very well. Jane and Mary both hope the chosen student and the Award Leader BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Garment Technology, Lynn Wood will be able to attend York Rotary to speak one lunchtime.
This new initiative of involvement that Jane has established has the promise of giving great benefit to the College students. More reports will be published as the involvement develops during the year and progresses towards a design competition.
