This annual event was held on Tuesday 10th June at the beautiful village of Welburn.
This year there were options for either a 6 mile or a shorter 3 mile walk in the Castle Howard area and/or a 1 mile Treasure Trail around the village, all followed by a Cream Tea in the delightful village hall.

Twenty Two walkers, ably led by our Walking Group Maestro Graham Todd, gathered at 12.00noon sharp to set off. From the village hall we walked up through the village and then across the fields (and up a rather steep incline!) to join the Centenary Way where we enjoyed fabulous views of Caste Howard and the Howardian Hills. The ten ultra-fit ‘Long Walkers’ continued towards Castle Howard on another loop or two, whilst the twelve slightly less -fit ‘Short Walkers’ returned to Welburn directly through some delightful woods and fields. Arriving back at the village hall for a well-earned cuppa, many of them continued on to join the eleven ‘Treasure Trailers’ who were just setting off to solve the clues as they strolled round the village.

Once everyone was safely back at the village hall we all dug in to a delicious Cream Tea of homemade scones and cakes which looked absolutely fabulous ready laid out for us. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all who came and some even added the extra luxury of a glass of fizz with their tea!
Following a tense scoring session and a clever Tie Breaker the winners of the Treasure Trail were declared as Steve Magac and Jackie Dean. They won a box of Roses Chocolates and donated it back for a future raffle prize. The booby prize of a Yellow Courgette Plant was won by newcomers Joe Postill and his team who have already promised to return next year!
Everyone donated generously to the raffle which raised a massive £220 itself!
I would like to thank everyone who supported the event.
The day raised over £700 which International Team have pledged to our friends at Ebenezer Childcare Trust in Zambia to provide educational resources for the children in Early Years in the school.
