10K Baggage Handling on the Knavesmire

Well, the forecast was dire, and as some 15 of us headed to the Knavesmire for our annual support of the 10K event, things were not looking promising. However, apart from a few (fairly heavy) showers, the weather held up; luggage was received and, some time later, returned to the correct owners (which is of course the only aim of our exercise!). There was some queuing, caused, we think, by most competitors immediately wishing to reclaim their luggage (and importantly some warm and waterproof clothing) immediately after they crossed the finishing line, but all competitors seemed most appreciative of our efforts.
It is always a great event, supporting the raising of funds for a large number of charities, and we feel privileged to be part of it. Many thanks to my merry (well, most of the time) band of handlers!
By the way, we are still looking for a few more people to assist with the baggage at the York Marathon on Sunday 19th October; if you think you may be able to help and you haven’t already offered, please do contact me. You can offer to do the morning or the afternoon shift.
