It was a new event for York Rotary putting us firmly on the map for helping and encouraging Fashion Students in the City. It was a well attended exhibition at the Spurriergate Centre with four award presentations, and an excellent end to the academic year York Rotary have spent with the students.

When the York Rotary Fashion Award was announced we were welcomed with a great big cheer from both Lecturers and Students who really appreciated our year visiting the York Art school.

The Highly Commended Award went to Jenny Ackroyd. The judges couldn’t forget her approach to a very commercial design, an amazing underskirt, great photography and an added line of a “K-Pop Hoodie” as the UK weather needs to be considered in these ranges.

The Winner of the First Rotary Fashion Award went to Beth Warriner. The judges were so impressed with her skilled approach to the award brief. Nothing was left out. Her illustration of a K-Pop Band, her excellent design and production of Top, Skirt and Shorts, showing excellent pattern cutting and manufacturing skills. Great branding, with range name, swing tickets and QR codes with brand name, made Beth an outstanding winner of this years award.

Head of Fashion Lynn Wood and both students are Speakers for the Youth Team on the 11th of September and I really hope we get a huge attendance for our first Rotary Fashion Award. This award has brought us into a younger age group who really appreciate our presence and contribution.

Gosh, it was a really good evening at the Spurriergate Centre. Full of amazing Talent and Hope. Here’s to next year…
