York Pride was an exciting move for York Rotary. Daring to be different, Mary Lumley and Jane Albon took the Tea Tent to a grass plot with no services at all. York Pride is now the biggest event in North Yorkshire and as an External Relationship exercise we had a stall at this years event.

It was a three team event to try this out. External Relations funded the stall and Pride decorations, Fundraising provided set up and staff and Community Service provided funds to support a local charity, Time to Be Out.

It was an amazing event for us to be at, and exceeded any expectation of External Relations. Claire Douglas, Leader of York Council, who we met at International Women’s Day, wanted to introduce Richard Webb, New Chief Executive of York Council to York Rotary. They spent 30 minutes at our stall getting to know everyone and look forward to supporting all we do.

We then had a full Civic visit, all ready for a sit down with Tea and cake. It was great to meet the whole new team ahead of the Dragon Boat Challenge, and we all look forward to working together throughout the year. We were also joined by Ex Sheriff Paul Doughty and David Smith who were so happy to catch up with York Rotary too.

The interest from young people to know what is York Rotary? It was great to tell our story and one young lady wants to start a group with us.

External Relations at its best, Fundraising did well, supporting local charities was exceptional. Meeting who we support on the day was what it is all about. In terms of Fundraising the event raised in excess of £850 of which £250 was donated to Time to be out leaving £600 raised for the York Rotary charity fund.
