York Rotary has been sending humanitarian aid to displaced people in Ukraine since the war started four years ago.  Over the four years York Rotary has collected food, toiletries, warm winter coats, blankets, towels and sleeping bags has been transported to Kiev, Ukraine via Hope and Aid Direct.  To date over 350 banana boxes of food aid has been sent along with other one of specific items of aid such as funding for portable generators.  The need for aid continues as more and more people are having to live in temporary accommodation and they desperately need day to day supplies (see the video below).

Our collections have been halted for a few months, but they are re-commencing and members are encouraged to bring aid donations to our monthly business meetings.  We need non perishable food, adult and baby hygiene products, all types of toiletries as well as sleeping bags and blankets. If you have friends or a social group who would be willing to collect items that will go directly to families in Kiev, please get in touch.

The delivery of aid is not always easy.  Truck 94 shown in the video below took four hours to unload by hand because it was too icy to use a forklift truck safely.  Fortunately the team were able to enlist the support of 15 locals to help.  In the background sound to the video you can hear the air raid sirens.

Another video that can be accessed via the Facebook link below talks about the lack of power and heating and the problems that residents in Kiev are encountering.  Even simple tasks like charging mobile phones have become problematic.

Continued support would be appreciated.
