Annual Technology Tournaments are organised by Rotary Clubs throughout the UK.

The Technology Tournament is an event for secondary school students to demonstrate their practical and team building skills and their design and technology knowledge.  Students, in teams of four, compete in three age sectors.  Having been asked to bring tools which they use in day-to-day school-curriculum craft lessons, they are given a brief on the day to design and build a ‘construction’ in a set time (usually about four hours) and afterwards, to demonstrate their construction to the judges.

Marks are awarded on their success and also a ‘portfolio’ which they write during the project describing how they approached the task, how the team decided on their design and details of how they built it.   Certificates are presented to the top three winning teams in each age sector.

The York area tournament is  held at the headquarters of Portakabin Ltd in Huntington.  The event requires no preparation by school staff or students and is free to enter, all the materials used and running costs being borne by York's three Rotary Clubs.

Places are limited  so please apply as early as possible to secure a place for your school's teams

The event  commences at 8.45am and ends about 3.15pm.  Schools can enter teams in all three age sectors.

The Technology Tournament was started to celebrate the Rotary Centenary in 2005 - to encourage another 100 years of service to the community at home and overseas, for which Rotary is famed.

It is organised each year as a co-operative effort between the three Rotary Clubs in York, for the benefit of the young people of the York area..
