2019 General Information
With 36 teams of 16 fancy-dressed paddlers in Dragon Boats competing in heats throughout the day from 9.30am , and culminating in an exciting final in the afternoon, over a 250-metre course between Scarborough and Lendal Bridges, the York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge is one of the City's premier events, drawing great crowds from local residents and visitors alike, who want to share in the excitement.
In conjunction with the racing event, we also have a Gala on the North Bank of the River, where the public can watch the racing and enjoy the fun of stalls, competitions, music, food and drink; and learn about local charities.
TAKING A STALL (CHARITIES)
Charities wishing to join the fun and take a pitch on the North riverbank are invited to apply for more information by contacting Mark Sessions at [email protected]
There is a nominal booking fee of £20 for a "pitch" and charities provide their own tables, gazebos etc. Most pitches are either 3x3 metres or 4x4 metres.
We take care of City Licencing requirements for Charity stalls, and there is no additional charge for this. We do require stallholders to have evidence of the their Public Liability insurance.
There is an unloading/loading are at Marygate Landing and a limited number of trolleys available for charities to use for transporting their equipment and supplies to their "pitch". We can usually provide free car parking within walking distance from the riverbank.
We occasionally have very limited availability of sites for food, beverage and commercial stalls. Additional fees for commercial licencing are payable.
