GIFT AID

Giving to charity was made easier in 2000. If you are a standard rate taxpayer any donations can attract "gift aid" to the charity and if you are a higher rate taxpayer you can also obtain relief on the donation on the difference between the basic and higher rate of tax on the grossed up amount.

To take advantage of these arrangements you must first complete a gift aid declaration, normally available from the Treasurer of the charity. The charity will reclaim the standard rate of tax and retain that portion - for every pound donated, the charity can gross the amount up to £1.28.

All taxpayers must declare donations given under gift aid on their tax return. A higher rate taxpayer will receive the further relief described above of  23p on every pound donated - a net cost of 77p to benefit the charity with £1.28 - an uplift of 66%, can't be bad!

Members of York Rotary Club should have completed a Gift Aid Declaration for the Charity Fund. If you are not sure, please check with the Treasurer.
