Rotagraph was first published in 1951 and has appeared monthly since. It is available from the first week of each month. Articles for publication should be sent to the Editor by the end of the preceding month please.

 A varied programme of speakers is being arranged and full details are included on the diary page. The date of the next meeting is 9th May 2008, 11.30 at the Churchill Hotel.

Community Service - Chairman -Brian Houghton        

The club sponsors candidates for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and the successful candidates for the 2008 course are Isla Perry from Huntington School and Harriet Andrews from Bootham School. This year it has been decide to sponsor a candidate for a week with the Ocean Youth Trust the successful candidate is Thomas Spink form Huntington School.

Blood Pressure Day was held on Saturday April 19th 2008, in co-operation with the two other Rotary Clubs in York, when the public in three centres around York were invited to have a free blood pressure check. 

The refurbishment of the toilet and shower area of the Ken Ather Centre was completed by members with some assistance from outside contractors. Replacement heaters have also been installed at the Scout's Snowball Plantation. The Hospice shops have been redecorated by teams of Rotarians during the year. 

A cheque for £2000 was given to the Guardian Angels Appeal for the new high dependency unit at the York District Hospital on 15th February 2008. Other funds have been donated to the Centre for Separated Families, Assertive Outreach Team,York Night Stop Charity, Holidays for Carers, York against Cancer Minibus,, York University Student Action, Young Friends of Foxwood, and RYLA students.

A summer outing for the elderly is being arranged for the elderly on Tuesday 24th June at the Sinnington W.I.

Dragon Boat Committee - Chairman - Steve Burton

The committee preparations for this years race on Sunday 13th July 2008 are almost complete. The selected charity for 2008 is the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Application packs were sent out to potential teams in February 2008 and the successful teams notified. The briefing for Captains will take place on 22nd April 2008. The club will be selling race programmes in York on Saturday 5th July 2008 and the Prize Presentation Evening will take place on 7th October 2008 at the Mansion House. The next committee meeting has been arranged for 29th April at 16.30 at Chris Birch's office.

Foundation/International - Chairman - David Heasman

The club has decided to bring together the work of Foundation and International in one committee.

At International level, the site at  Foundation Newsletters  provides valuable information on many Foundation projects( please note if you have a slow connection this site may take a while to download) .

Sponsorship has been provided to a student in Sri Lanka, who is showing great promise as an artist and received recognition in a competition organised by a Japanese television programme. She is about to move into higher education this coming academic year and it has been agreed that support is continued. Assistance has also gone to Sri Lanka towards the low cost homes project  supported by District 1040 and a cheque for £500 has been sent.

Aquaboxes have been despatched each year to assist with disasters abroad as they occur. Other projects supported include "Mercy Ships", the Hope and Homes Project in Africa, Karen Hill Tribes Trust and International Children's Trust for Gayathri.

Speakers were arranged on Foundation in November and for February 2008 on international topics. A concert by the York Light Orchestra is being held on 31st January 2008 in Stockton-on Forest Village Hall with the proceeds going to charity.

The committee is arranging a reunion with Erlangen and Aubusson commencing 1st May 2008. This will be held in Cambridge, the actual venue is to be determined.

Fundraising - Joint Chairmen - David Jesper/John Russell

The 100 Club is now the 100 Plus Club! New entrants always welcome. The regular bric-a-bac sales have been arranged for 2008. The next sale is on 15th April at St Crux. The committee arranged the Valentine Day Lunch on 14th February as a Fund Raising event and  Stockton-on-Forest Village Hall was the venue. The possibility of identifying another fund raising event is being considered, but the committee is concerned not to over extend members commitment. 

The next committee meeting is on Monday 14th January 2008,at 19.00 at Jim Delittle's home.

A Membership Proposals Sub Committee has been set up to meet proposed members who are not necessarily well known to Club members, to explain Rotary aims and obligations.

Vocational Service - Chairman - Frank Paterson

Mock interviews were arranged on 10th and 17th July 2007 at the Joseph Rowntree School by a team of Rotarians. These have been held at the end of the summer term for a number of years. Feed back from the school is that the experience has been most useful to the pupil, when it comes to the "real thing", be it an interview for University or a job. These will be undertaken in July again next year.

A Fourth Joint York Rotary Clubs Technology Competition  for local schools will be held on 11th March 2008 at the National Railway Museum. In 2007 forty two teams of four students entered. Sponsorship was kindly  provided by the Shepherd Building Group and North Yorkshire Business and Education 

Vocational  visits are planned quarterly hopefully to York College on 16th April and May venues to be decided.
