THE VOCATIONAL COMMITTEE REPORT

2007 AGM Report

The Committee met twice during the year. The outline programme, presented at the Club Assembly, was confirmed on 21st July and a review meeting held on 19th January 2007.

Vocational  Visits

It was decided that visits should be phased once a quarter to avoid overwhelming members with too many rotary activities and this has ensured very good support.

Visits to the Central Science Laboratories and York College included partners .22 members supported the whole day visit to the new Robin Hood Airport and the Doncaster Sports Stadium. The proposed visit to the National Science Learning Centre on 12th June has had to be deferred until August and alternatives are being explored.

Speakers

We had two outstanding vocational speakers: - Brigadier Richard Dennis on the present day army and Professor John Holman on the aspirations for the National Science Learning Centre.

Technology Tournament

Our involvement with the other two York Clubs continued for the third year and a record 42 teams from 14 schools participated at the National Railway Museum on 13th March 2007.

Mock Interviews

Six members conducted mock  interviews during July with  senior students at Joseph Rowntree Sixth Form College and again were very impressed with the quality, range of interests and self assurance of the young people seen.
