THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE REPORT

2007 AGM Report

International Month - February started very well when the York Light Orchestra Concert raised £1,200 for the Wheelchair Foundation equivalent to 24 wheelchairs and a cheque was handed to PDG Milton Frary at the first meeting of the month. Other speakers included David Walker, chairman of IMPACT and District Chairman E Lloyd Davies who updated us on the progress of the Yorkshire School in Sri Lanka. The month was rounded off with a Polish style lunch.

We continued our support for Gayathri Kauohalya our student in Sri Lanka through the I.C.T. with a donation of £180. The expectation is that he will gain a place at university.

Aquabox expected to be sent off by the end off April.

Yorkshire School in Sri Lanka : £250 was raised from the Frugal Lunch in 2006 and another £500 will be required to secure a ‘York’ named classroom.

Contact Clubs:

  • The Reunion with Aubusson and Erlangen will take place in Epinal, in May.
  • The contact with York, Maine, USA took place in September 2006 when 8 members and wives experienced their wonderful hospitality.
  • Gorinchem – 4 Dutch Rotarians visited us in January when it was decided on visits every 3 years, the next being in October 2008 to a venue other than York.

A satisfactory year for the committee with eight meetings convened, and while attendance was depleted due to sickness and holidays, several successful outcomes for which the members are to be congratulated for their efforts.
