THE FUND RAISING COMMITTEE

2007 AGM Report

The Fund Raising Committee has come together on a number of occasions throughout the year to discuss various ways of raising funds for the Club’s Charity Account. Due to the prolonged absence of this years nominated Chairman, Dave Spittlehouse, it has been difficult to organise and I am grateful for the support of the members particularly when it came to sorting out bric-a-brac and books for St Crux and the year long effort in making the North Side Gala on Dragon Boat day a success.

Ø      Throughout the Rotary year we have held 3 book and bric-a-brac sales at St Crux in aid of our local charities, raising £770.80 on 28 March 2006, £677.84 on 9 June 2006 and finally £1045.56 on 21 November 2006, making a total of £2499.20. Sadly our St Crux helper for many years, Mrs Barbara Medd, decided to retire last year and as a thank you for her service to the club she attended a club meeting on the 1st September 2006 where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and thanked by the President. We are also grateful that her place has been taken by Judith Miller and Gillian Porter.

Ø      The Dragon Boat day absorbs a lot of time throughout the year for the Fund Raising Committee and I have to thank David Jesper and Jim DeLittle for their time and effort. The North Side Gala was once again a great success and goes from strength to strength. The standard of stalls gets higher and there was plenty of entertainment, food and lots to enjoy.

Ø      The St Valentines Day Lunch, building on the success of last year was again a resounding success raising over £1000 for the clubs charity account. Again special thanks go to the chefs and all who supported this event, they improve year upon year.

Ø      We were left with some tickets for the Norwich Union wheel and Virgin Rail tickets from the Dragon Boat day and therefore we organised a raffle which was duly held raising further funds for the charity account and Dragon Boat day charities.

Ø      I would like to thank Ian Hardy for continuing to organise the 100 club draw and those members who support it.

Ø      I wish next years Chairman every success.
