THE COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE
2007 AGM Report
As with last year the committee have been trying to
find interesting York based charities to receive our funds. Members of the committee have
each been given specific requests to look into and we have come up with several
new small organisations that we felt worthy of the clubs financial support
together with some we have supported before.
In addition to the fund distribution we have been
involved with some hands on projects, these include
the completion of the decoration and tiling at the Ken Ather
Centre. We carried out the decoration of the two local St Leonard’s
Hospice Shops. We also erected a shed for the Foundation Housing Charity
at the Holgate Allotments. This is for a group of
youngsters who have troubled drug related backgrounds. The idea is to get the
youngsters involved in planting and running the allotment and give them a
purpose in life.
We are of course continuing to support:
- RYLA. I have just completed the interviews
with members of the other York Clubs and selected the 6 students, from the
17 who applied, to be supported by the York Clubs. A very difficult task
as we interviewed some outstanding students however we have tried to
select those who we felt would benefit most from the experience.
- Stroke
Awareness – Blood Pressure Testing. This is coming up on the 28th
April 2007 in
The Coppergate Centre where we will be assisted
again by the Paramedics and St John’s Ambulance.
- Kids Out
– 13th June 2007. We are in the process of selecting
12/15 children with their carers to go on this day organised by District.
The charities who have received our donations this
year are:

The last three items may cost slightly more, we are
awaiting further details to establish the final cost for each of the projects.
I know I can speak on behalf of the Committee and say
we have enjoyed the challenge to find new deserving causes and all the
committee have been involved with the projects shown above. I am indebted to
them for their hard work throughout the year.
Dennis Adamson as secretary as usual has worked very
hard and kept me on the straight and narrow!
In addition without the support of the Club members,
particularly with the hands on projects and the three annual District events,
we would not have been able to complete the projects. I would like to thank
them most sincerely on behalf of my committee.
I am looking forward to the challenge again next year
and would add that the committee would be happy to consider any charities that
members may wish to put forward for support, either hands on or with funding.
